Bodine School

Germantown, Tennessee

Submitted by Reece Daughtry, Principal

Bodine School receives a $100 Read Naturally Gift Certificate.

Bodine School is a unique school that serves students with dyslexia and focuses on early intervention to help students reach their full academic potential. Their approach is rooted in the Science of Reading, and they use Read Live to deliver individualized instruction in oral reading fluency and comprehension. Instruction also includes daily Orton-Gillingham lessons, and class sizes are capped at 10 students per room.

Principal Reece Daughtery explains that each student in grades two through five works through one Read Live passage per week—first during a pull-out session with their teacher, and then at home with a parent. The variety and quantity of program content makes it easy to find passages at an appropriate level for each student, and the digital platform allows students to smoothly transition between school and home sessions. “The school has been using Read Live for over a decade, and it has proved invaluable,” says Daughtery.

Students at Bodine school are gaining the literacy skills—and the confidence—needed to succeed in school. Bodine School is a model of excellence in literacy instruction and a very deserving awardee of the Read Live School of the Year scholarship.

Educational Pathways Academy

Bonita Springs, Florida

Submitted by Aleksandra Hila, Reading/Literacy/Language Arts Teacher

Educational Pathways Academy receives a $100 Read Naturally Gift Certificate.

Educational Pathways AcademyEducational Pathways Academy serves students with language-based learning disabilities, such as dyslexia. For many of their students, reading has long been a source of frustration and anxiety. Some have even experienced bullying at other schools due to their learning differences. Educational Pathways Academy aims to minimize these struggles and build upon students’ strengths.

To provide consistent, focused support in oral reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, the school implemented Read Live as a core component of their literacy instruction. Students work in the program for 40 minutes a day, five days a week. Teachers monitor progress closely and continually adjust the program settings to meet each student’s unique and changing needs. Data shows significant growth in fluency and comprehension scores, and teachers also report increased reading stamina.

Perhaps most importantly, students’ attitudes toward reading have transformed. One student shared with his teacher, Aleksandra Hila, “I didn’t think I could be good at reading. Now I know I can.” Hila reflected, “This shift in mindset—seeing reading as a skill they can build, not a barrier they’re stuck behind—is one of the most profound outcomes of our Read Live implementation.”

Submitted by Alexis Rivera, Reading/Literacy/Language Arts Administrator

Lehi Elementary receives a $100 Read Naturally Gift Certificate.

Lehi ElementaryLehi Elementary initially used Read Live only as a targeted intervention for students on the cusp of proficiency in reading. They saw such significant gains that they decided to expand access to the program to students throughout the school.

Since implementing Read Live, Instructional Coach Alexis Rivera reports that 30% of their highly proficient students, 80% of their partially proficient students, and 82% of their minimally proficient students have demonstrated measurable growth in both oral reading fluency and comprehension.

The program provides teachers with comprehensive data that allows them to monitor progress and continually tailor instruction to meet students individual and changing needs. Students are motivated as they track their progress toward meaningful, measurable reading goals. “Read Live has had a remarkable impact to our reading instruction at Lehi, fostering a data-driven and engaging learning environment that empowers both teachers and students,” says Rivera.

Submitted by Callie Jagels, Classroom Teacher

Metolius Elementary School implemented Read Live for students needing intensive reading intervention during W.I.N. Time (“What I Need” Time). Principal Adam Dietrich stated, “I am definitely committed to using Read Live with fidelity.” And that commitment has paid off—by the final quarter of the 2024-2025 school year, a third of the students in the intensive intervention group transitioned to the meets/exceeds grade-level group.

Teacher Callie Jagels reports that students are making “spectacular progress” in accuracy, fluency, and comprehension. Perhaps even more importantly, students’ attitudes toward reading are transforming. Not only are they gaining confidence as they notice themselves becoming stronger readers, but they’re also experiencing the joy of learning to read—students are excitedly sharing the fun facts they’ve learned from the nonfiction stories with friends and family. Jagels says there’s “no more whining and groaning when asked to read aloud,”—instead, students using Read Live “actually look forward to reading groups.”
