Read Naturally Live: Placement

Wednesday, February 12, 2025 | 11:00 AM CT

Placement is the process of determining the level of reading material and setting an initial reading rate goal for a student who is about to begin using Read Naturally Live. There are two options for this process: conducted placement or student independent placement. Placing a student in Read Naturally Live involves establishing the following:

  • Level: Which level of material is most appropriate for this student?
  • Series: Which series would most benefit this student?
  • Goal: Which goal rate will challenge but not frustrate the student?

Topics covered:

  • How to determine a level, select a series, and set a goal for your students before they begin using the Read Naturally Live program.
  • How to identify students’ earliest phonics needs.
  • A live demonstration of the placement process in Read Naturally Live.
  • Free resources that will support implementation of Read Naturally Live.

Read Naturally Live: Checking Initial Placement

Thursday, February 20, 2025 | 1:00 PM CT

Proper placement is critical to accelerating student achievement. You can set students up for success by using Read Naturally Live's built-in placement test and then checking initial placement after the student has completed the first three stories. Our new Data Mentor feature provides suggestions for level and goal adjustments. By checking initial placement, you can determine if the student's initial level and goal are appropriate, or if you should adjust either the level or the goal.

Topics covered:

  • Why proper placement is critical to each student’s success
  • Why it’s important to check a student’s initial placement
  • Why the teacher should be present during the cold timing for at least the first three to six stories
  • Where to locate the Data Mentor suggestions for each student
  • How to generate a Students At-a-Glance report and how to analyze the data
  • The key indicators used to evaluate a student’s initial placement level and goal
  • How to determine when a student’s initial level and goal are appropriate and when a student’s initial level or goal should be adjusted
  • How to adjust a series, level, or goal within Read Live
