Congratulations to Olivia, our first Star of the Month for the 2025-2026 school year! Olivia is now a fifth grader at McAuliffe Elementary School in Riverside, CA. She has made amazing progress in Read Naturally programs over the last few years. Olivia's teacher, Aldrich Tan, nominated her last year and shared the following:
"I'm honored to nominate Olivia for my Read Naturally Star of the Month. When she was in first-grade, Olivia was the girl who could not read in comparison to her class. It was because she had a reading disability called dyslexia. In late second grade we made her eligible for special education services and started working with her using a combination of Orton-Gillingham and Read Naturally, teaching her the difference between a /b/ and /d/ sound. Now, in fourth-grade, Olivia receives appropriate interventions including resource pullout, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Her handwriting has greatly improved and now she is proudly reading over 70 words per minute on third-grade level text in Read Naturally. She told us herself that she is shocked that she has improved so much in her reading and is now able to read books and novels. When she grows up, she wants to be a professional gamer with her own YouTube channel. Winning this award for Olivia would allow her to celebrate the victories that she has made. She is proof of the impact of appropriate interventions and services. In addition, she feels that she herself is a good reader and has made improvement."
You're amazing, Olivia! Keep up the great work!
