Your Read Live students can accelerate their reading skills even faster by using independent reading time.
In most independent reading sessions, the gap between fluent and struggling readers widens. At best, struggling readers read a fraction of the words their peers do. At worst, they don’t read at all, opting instead to look at pictures or pretend like they’re reading. The same is true when independent reading is assigned as homework. DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) time and similar activities are not usually an ideal use of time for struggling readers—and yet they remain common classroom practices.
Does this mean we shouldn’t encourage struggling readers to read independently? Absolutely not! It means we need to make independent reading time count. It means we need to provide struggling readers with the structure they need to actually accelerate.
Here’s the great news for your Read Live students. One Minute Reader Live, included with every Read Live license, is available for structured independent reading practice anytime—during independent reading time in the classroom and even at home. Students work completely independently while they benefit from a structured, supportive, and motivating reading program. Plus, you and the classroom teachers get reports showing student effort and progress.
Talk to the classroom teachers in your school and let them know your students will benefit more during independent reading time if they use One Minute Reader Live. With this program, students will read more words and accelerate progress.
Don’t let your students waste another minute of independent reading time!
