What's New in This Release
Read Live version 3.17 includes two new features to ease early student work in Read Naturally Live.
Independent Placement is now available for all students able to record readings on their devices. Once given access to Read Naturally Live, students can read placement stories independently of a teacher. The independent process places students in an appropriate initial level in Read Naturally Live's Sequenced series.
Data Mentor is a new tool for teachers that provides data-driven suggestions about each student's progress. As of this release, Data Mentor checks a student's initial placement in Read Naturally Live's Sequenced series. Teachers can accept suggested changes to a student's level or story goal. Data Mentor explains each possible change, and makes suggestions about possible actions to take for a student outside the Read Live application.

Summary of new features
- Independent Placement:
- Students with a microphone can now conduct placement without a teacher present.
Note: This feature is not currently supported on iPads. - After being given access to Read Naturally Live, students read one or more passages aloud. Read Live analyzes their reading for accuracy and reading speed.
- Students completing independent placement are placed in an appropriate level in Read Naturally Live's Sequenced series.
- Data Mentor Checking Initial Placement:
- Data Mentor currently makes suggestions about a student's first few stories in the Read Naturally Live Sequenced series.
- Note that Data Mentor currently only gives suggestions for students new to Read Naturally Live who are working in the Sequenced series.
- Suggestions can include changes to a student's level or story goal, as well as possible measures outside of Read Live.
- Suggestions made for a student change over time based on the student's performance.
- Teachers can access Data Mentor suggestions within the Read Naturally Live student module in two places:
- On the Teacher Menu for each student, a Data Mentor item provides access to any suggestions for that student.
- At the Pass/Review Work step of each story, a Data Mentor tab is present. This tab is highlighted with a red badge when Data Mentor has suggestions for the student.
- For Data Mentor to make suggestions for a student, the student must:
- perform Cold Timings with a teacher present; and
- complete the Quiz step in each story.
