Each section has one story exercise following the review exercise. These nonfiction stories contain several words that feature the prefixes, suffixes, syllable patterns, or roots taught in the section. The numbers along the left side of the story are used for counting the number of words students read as they practice.
The audio introduction draws attention to a featured prefix, suffix, or root and how it affects the meanings of words in the story. The student first does a cold timing reading the story. Next, the student reads along as the narrator reads the story. The student then stops the CD and practices the story.
Students complete Steps 1–7 for story exercises.
