If you’ve been following along with our recent news announcements, you’ve learned we’re very excited about the release of our new phonics program, Word Warm-ups Live. We’re also committed to helping educators everywhere begin to use this highly effective program with their students. We’ve developed several free resources to answer all of your questions about assessment, placement, implementation, and everything in between. Be sure to check out this recent blog post, Useful Resources for a Successful Word Warm-ups Live Implementation, which links to all of these resources.

Back in 2018, Read Naturally founder Candyce Ihnot wrote a blog post about how she uses the Word Warm-ups program to boost her students’ phonics skills. In her post, Time for Phonics, Candyce explains why using Word Warm-ups for phonics practice is beneficial for readers at all levels. She also explains the clever and motivating ways she incorporates this program into the daily schedule of her reading lab. Be sure to check out her article, as it describes several ideas that have resulted in great success—and great fun—in Candyce’s reading lab.

Our research-based phonics intervention, Word Warm-ups Live, is now included with Read Live. Read Live users can now assign additional phonics instruction for students needing extra help with decoding and encoding common phonics patterns. The program is included at no additional cost with all Read Live licenses. Check out the release notes for information about this latest Read Live update.

Choir singers sing up and down the scale before a concert. Basketball players shoot dozens of layups before a game. Actors rehearse their lines over and over before filming a scene. The purpose of these warm-up exercises is to ingrain processes into the brain until they become automatic. Then, when the big moment arrives—when it’s time to sing, make a shot, or film a scene—the warmed-up skill is more likely to deliver the desired result.

The latest Read Live update includes two new features specifically designed to support the use of Read Live in distance- or blended-learning models.

An update to Read Naturally Live content was released this past weekend (June 20) affecting almost all of the stories in Read Naturally Live. We are committed to improving our program and are pleased to provide you with this refreshed content.

If you use Read Naturally Strategy programs with your students, you know the importance of proper placement. When students are placed in the correct Read Naturally level and working with an appropriate goal, they will make significantly greater progress. Over the years, we have consistently fine-tuned our placement process to make it more accurate and efficient. To reflect these enhancements, we are pleased to announce a new and improved Placement Packet to accompany our Encore II program.

Here we are at the end of the school year—a school year none of us will soon forget. As we all navigated uncertain territory, we took comfort in our steady communication with you. You took the time to send us suggestions and words of thanks. You helped us adapt our resources to better serve you. And, as always, you read and shared the posts on our blog, RN Bookmark.

If your school uses Google (G Suite) for Education, teachers and students may now login to Read Live with their Google accounts. Securely accessing Read Live using the same account used for Gmail, Google Classroom, and other Google services streamlines the login process and reduces the burden of needing to keep track of multiple user IDs and passwords. This widely requested enhancement is featured in the latest update to Read Live, which went into effect over the weekend.

In these uncertain times, students everywhere will benefit from familiarity and consistency. We are so grateful that our most popular program, Read Live, can be used in a distance-learning model to provide this kind of support.
