Read Live App for iPad

 

1. How much does the Read Live app cost, and how do I get it?

The Read Live app is free and can be downloaded from the Apple iTunes App store. Before a student can use the iPad app, he or she must have access to a Read Live account. The Account Administrator or the student’s lead teacher must provide the student with a license and assign him or her a level and goal.

If you’re not sure whether your school has an account, please send an email to customerservice@readnaturally.com or call Read Naturally customer service at 800-788-4085. If your school doesn’t have an account, you can sign up for a free 60-day trial.

2. How do students log in from the Read Live iPad app?

On the iPad, students open the Read Live iPad app, and enter the user ID and password that was assigned to them when they were enrolled in Read Live. These credentials can be used on any device supported by Read Live, including iPads. Students will also need the account ID the first time the app is accessed on a device.

If the student does not have this information, please contact the Account Administrator or the student’s lead teacher.

3. Can a Read Live student work on the same level and story on their computer and their iPad? Can they use an iPad at home and a computer at school?

A student may use Read Live anywhere they have an internet connection and a compatible device, including an iPad. The Read Live system keeps track of student progress and allows students to exit from, and return to, the program to continue working on their story regardless of the device or location from which the program is accessed. The student may be logged in from only one device at a time.

4. Can teachers run reports or place students, change levels and goals, add and license students, etc. with the Read Live app?

Teachers and administrators must use a supported computer web browser to access the Staff Member module for administering Read Live:  enrolling students, placing students, reporting, etc.  These tasks cannot be completed within the iPad app, which was designed for student use.  For a list of web browsers that Read Live supports, see Read Live System Requirements.

However, when a student is logged into the app, staff members can perform some key tasks using the Teacher menu (the button with the apple icon in the upper right corner).  From this menu, staff members can reset stories, and depending on their roles, change the student's story options and change the student's series/level or goal.

5. My child uses Read Live at school. Does she need permission to use it on our iPad at home? How can I (the parent) get a password?

Please communicate with your child’s teacher about home access. At their discretion, your school’s Account Administrator can provide you with a Read Live Assistant password, but parents and guardians should have training on the program before they can effectively work with their child at home.

6. Will the Read Live app work on a Kindle or NOOK? iPhone? iPad mini?

The Read Live app is designed for use on the Apple iPad only. Read Naturally Live is not currently supported on other mobile devices. The Read Live app will work on an iPad mini. However, please be aware that the iPad mini is not recommended, since the font sizes will be very small and may pose a barrier to young readers. Check the system requirements for details.

7. If I have problems with the Read Live iPad app, whom should I call—Read Naturally or Apple?

8. I work with visually impaired students. Are the Read Live passages compatible with the iPad’s accessibility features that control text size?

The Read Live iPad app does not support the iPad’s Dynamic Type accessibility feature. However, you can magnify the entire iPad screen using an accessibility option found in Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom.
