The Short Answer step asks the student to write a text response to a question. Students then assess their own response against a model. If they decide their response needs revision, they can rewrite it.
The Short Answer step helps develop comprehension skills and reminds students to read for meaning. It also provides the student with a change to compose her or his own written response.
Students earn points for both writing and revising responses.
