Completing the Cold Read Step

The Cold Read step enables students to see how many words they read correctly in one minute on a new story. This step sets a baseline for the story, so the student can see improvement after practicing.

Steps

1. Click Start Timing to start the 60-second timer.
2. Read the story until complete or the timer finishes.
   • If the story reading is done before the timer finishes, click the Finished button at the end of the story.
   • If the timer finishes before the story is done, click the last word read.
3. Click Next to go to the next step.

The student earns a Words Per Minute (WPM) score and points after completing the story. 

This score is compared to practices in future steps to track their improvement.

While points have no actual impact on the application, they are tracked as a way to reward students for good performance.
